Founded in 2006 in South Strafford, Vermont by Brett Tofel, ReKnew Energy has grown rapidly to become one of the region’s leading design and installation companies for solar electricity and hot water.
Shortly after founding ReKnew Energy, Brett was joined by his nephew, David Tofel. Dave became a partner in the company and soon directed residential installations. As of today, they have completed over 200 residential installations.
In 2007 Steve Teel joined the company to head its solar hot water installation division. Also that year, Simon Leavitt, a systems design engineer, joined the company.
In 2008 the company moved to its current offices in South Royalton, Vermont, and launched a commercial installation division. That year they did their first commercial installation at the Norwich, VT, Elementary School. Today, they are currently working on over 100kW+ of commercial projects.
2009 saw the arrival of Steve Tofel to run the commercial division. Today, ReKnew Energy employs 12 people, in various capacities, and is expecting to continue its third year of high double digit growth. It is currently negotiating contracts for over .75 MW of commercial projects.
